Elmer Sprunger: Artist, Naturalist and Political Humorist

17 Jun 2011 - 03 Sep 2011

This exhibition displays artist, naturalist, and political cartoonist Elmer Sprunger’s various artwork. It includes oil paintings of the natural world, most of which are set in a Flathead landscape, as well as his political cartoons, which he drew for the Bigfork Eagle for 24 years. Sprunger’s cartoons also appeared in the Missoulian and several other publications. Having lived on-and-off in the Swan Valley throughout his life, Sprunger’s landscapes include familiar scenes like Flathead Lake, Logan Pass, and Jewel Basin. His political cartoons also relate to local issues, like keeping Flathead Lake’s water supply clean and maintaining the area’s ancient tree population during increased logging.

The exhibition is on view from June 17 through September 3, 2011.
